It’s A Trap!

There are numerous vacuum pump traps on the market and everyone agrees they are a best practice tool for preserving/extending vacuum pump life or the time between vacuum pump maintenance.

Why you should consider a vacuum pump trap in between your vacuum oven and vacuum pump:
Traps help prolong the life of your pump. Vacuum pumps ingest all the outgassing material (solvents, water, etc.) Over time and without routine maintenance, the vacuum pump will lose efficiency.

Traps can help isolate outgassed material you want to reclaim. But keep in mind, a trap will trap a mix of everything, the stuff you want to keep and the stuff you want to dispose of.

Safety. At very cold temperatures, solvents and even oxygen can re-condense back into liquid. This is potentially explosive. Liquid oxygen is a light blue color and can condense into a cold trap if a pump has sucked air through the trap when the trap is very cold. Always follow your standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.

Cascade’s MAXTRAP is a mechanically refrigerated cold trap with large KF-25 fittings and lines and a patent pending baffle system to afford enough surface area to trap optimally. Designed for systems with larger KF-25 vacuum lines and vacuum pumps with KF-25 inlets running time-sensitive, high-throughput, production-focused vacuum purging or drying applications.

The COLDWELL

The COLDWELL is the stainless steel jar that sets inside the MAXTRAP.
It has a patent-pending baffle system that provides more surface area for material to condense. If you are not using the MAXTRAP, the COLDWELL can be placed inside an ice bucket to provide the cold temps necessary for condensation. For optimal performance, purchase the MAXTRAP which includes the COLDWELL.

The COLDWELL Vacuum Cold Trap Vessel for the MAXTRAP

Patent-pending baffle system, 3 Quart Capacity. Keep vacuum purging while original trap is being reclaimed, cleaned, refreshed in conjunction with the MAXTRAP Mechanically Refrigerated Cold Trap. Cold traps can become full or the captured material freezes and blocks flow. For large volume, 24-hour processing, or vacuum purging it is recommended that a second, spare COLDWELL is purchased. The secondary COLDWELL can be dropped into place so processing continues while the full trap is cleaned, defrosted.

Dry Ice Trap

A cost effective, non-mechanically refrigerated stainless steel vessel that can be made cold by filling with dry ice/ethanol slurries. The stainless steel jar is set into a cold slurry mix of ice/ alcohol/ dry ice. The cold surface of the trap collects and attracts components that would otherwise be ingested by the vacuum pump.

Passive Filter Trap

Use with vacuum pumps and ovens with a 3/8th Diameter line and connections. An easy and inexpensive way to try filter out larger particulates that your vacuum pump may ingest. Submerge it in an ice bucket for a cold trap effect. Clear glass shows what is being collected. The steel wool filter material can be cleaned and reused. Use with vacuum pumps like the Welch CB2052 with 3/8th connection barbs.

Got Ice? Save money with this “ice bucket” style cold trap. Fill the internal stainless steel reservoir with a cold slurry mix of ice/ alcohol/ dry ice and set inside the larger steel vessel. The cold surface of the trap attracts and condenses material that would otherwise be ingested by the vacuum pump.
